A little bit of me
I was very lucky to grow up during an era when popular music was on the verge of a change. The British invasion put The Kinks, Yes, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Cream, Hermans Hermits, The Who into my small transistor radio. These bands and many more blended with American singers Sinatra, Como, Presley, Martin, Roger Miller that gives me today an appreciation of all styles of music. All these artists could be found on the AM dial. It was a great time for music on the radio.
I continue to play my very first acoustic guitar, a Penco which is a Martin guitar lawsuit instrument. I did not know this at the time, but this guitar was modeled after a Martin D-18 and constructed in a similar way as Martins hence the lawsuits. I purchased my first Martin, a DM on the advice of my guitar idol Steve Howe of Yes. I now own a real Martin D-18 and it is my favorite to play.
I am very grateful to all the performers that I have met in my life and each year around the time of the Summer Solstice I invite a few of these people to join me at my home for a celebration of friends, community and music I call Willowstock. It is always a fun evening of great music and food and friendship. It hearkens back to the days of old when neighborhoods would gather during a summer night and share an evening under the gorgeous early summer sky.
